Wakeboard Run Format
Each rider shall undertake the following run:
- Maximum of 5 tricks
- There shall be no falls in the run
- Riders shall start their run when the rider cuts out from the middle of the wake to start their tricks or when they pass the start buoy of the course.
-
IWWF wakeboard rules apply
- We reserve the right to use a heat system using the single submitted video if entry numbers dictate it.
- Runs will be scored on:
- Execution - This reflects the level of perfection to which each manoeuvre was performed.
- Intensity - This reflects how big the moves were performed and the technical difficulty of the tricks executed.
- Composition - This reflects the overall composition of the routine in terms of the rider's ability to perform a variety of manoeuvres in a flowing, creative sequence.
-
Groms will not be limited to a number of tricks and will instead perform a run that has a maximum of 60
seconds
- The time of the Grom pass will start when the Grom waves to the cameraman
- Coaching from the boat is not allowed. Saving of tricks with boat speed or boat direction adjustment is not allowed. The wearing of impact vests is mandatory. Infringements of these rules is likely to be penalised with disqualification.
Wakeboard Filming Rules
Each submitted run should be filmed as follows:
- Filming should be started when the rider cuts out from the middle of the wake to start their tricks or when they pass the start buoy of the course
- Filming should finish a minimum of 2 seconds after the rider lands their final trick
- Filming should be from within the boat or from the tower (not be from the swim platform)
- There should be no breaks in the film footage
- The rider should be fully within the frame for the entire video
- The water should be fully within the frame for the entire video so you can clearly see the height of tricks
-
Filming should be taken on a modern smartphone
- e.g. iPhone/Android 3 years old or newer
-
Filming should be in landscape mode
- e.g. hold the phone so it is wider than it is tall
-
Filming should be at the highest resolution possible
- e.g. 4k if your phone supports it
- No music shall be added to the video
- No editing of the video shall be undertaken
- The videos should not have been published on social media or otherwise prior to the 14th/Sep/2021.
Wakeboard Film Example
Here is an example film clip from a wake and iphone filming test with Luca in Abu Dhabi. This clip meets the filming guidelines and would be acceptable for judging.
- Note the lighting is also good (sun towards the rider instead of behind them) so grabs and such can be easily be seen and judged fairly.
- The footage was taken from the boat on an iphone 11 plus at 4k with 2x optical zoom and no editing other than trimming. The iphone was held in landscape mode, e.g. wider than tall.
- Note there were 5 tricks which were filmed correctly with the rider in the frame at all times.
Wakesurf Competition Info
Specific instructions regarding the Wakesurf competition are below:
Wakesurf Divisions
We will have divisions for male and female wakesurfers. Within that there will be separate calories for skim and surf. If there are less than three entrants in skim or surf the categories will be combined. We reserve the right to introduce age categorisation once entries are in, depending on the volume of entries.
Wakesurf Run Format
Each rider shall undertake the following run:
- Maximum of 45 seconds; unlimited number of tricks.
- There shall be no falls in the run.
- All tricks should be performed without the rope.
- The filming should start with the rope throw.
- The scoring run will start on initiation of the first filmed trick and finish 45 seconds thereafter, or on the first fall if earlier.
- If a trick or combo trick is started within the 45 seconds it will be scored.
- If the rider falls on an element of a combo trick none of the combo elements will be scored.
- If there is a distinct pause between tricks they will be considered separate tricks.
- The latest IWWF wakesurf rules apply where appropriate for this virtual competition. See IWWF-Wakesurf-Rules-to-publish-032021.pdf for full details.
- Riders are encouraged to perform a smooth flowing routine with a wide variety of tricks.
- Each trick should be executed as cleanly as possible and taken to its limit.
- Judges will provide subjective scoring of each rider based on their overall opinion of how well the rider performed his routine in relation to each of the established subjective scoring criteria, in comparison to other riders.
- Runs will be scored on:
- Execution -This reflects how well the tricks are performed and the level of control/fluidity maintained throughout each trick and the entire run.
- Intensity - This reflects how populated with tricks run is i.e. if rider goes trick after trick or takes breaks between tricks to prepare himself for next one.
- Difficulty - This reflects how difficult each trick is based on any number of variables.
- Variety - This reflects the variety of tricks performed.
- We reserve the right to use a heat system using the single submitted video if entry numbers dictate it.
- Coaching from the boat is not allowed.
- Saving of tricks with boat speed or boat direction adjustment is not allowed.
- The wearing of impact vests is mandatory.
- Swim platform starts and exits shall not be permitted.
- Infringements of these rules is likely to be penalised with disqualification.
- Riders are strongly advised to throw the rope to the far side of the wake and have the boat crew recover the rope.
- Transfers from port to starboard are permitted but won’t be scored highly in themselves.
